What’s That Smell? St. Pete Pier's Future Uncertain

Heat continues, Tampa Stressed, Pier Confusion in St. Pete, 9/11 and a Strong Smell are five things you need to know today.

What’s That Smell?: A foul odor that filled the air over much of Tampa, Brandon and Plant City late last week isn’t a cause for concern, but it might not go away anytime soon, according to TBO.com. As it turns out, the smell is coming from a brand new pesticide being used by Hillsborough’s strawberry farmers. The bad news is those farmers aren’t done with the spraying and winds are expected to continue carrying the stench far and wide.

Pier’s Future Remains Unclear: After voters soundly turned down the proposal to build the “Lens” to replace the old St. Petersburg Pier, city officials seem rather unsure of what steps to take next. What do you think would serve Tampa Bay the best – a brand new pier or a refurbished old one? Share your ideas by commenting below!

Can’t Stand the Heat?: Ready for summer to make its exit and for temperatures to cool down in the Tampa Bay area? It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen any time soon. Forecasters are calling for another week of highs in the 90s. Monday, in fact, might see temperatures rise into the mid-90s range, according to the National Weather Service.

A somber anniversary: The 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks is Wednesday. How are you marking the day? Tell us by commenting below.
