Bo's Ice Cream Recovers After Bad Inspection

Roach and rodent activity in the Seminole Heights establishment prompted a temporary closing.

Seminole Heights area residents hoping to cool off with ice cream Monday were out of luck if Bo’s was their destination of choice.

The ice cream parlor at 7101 N. Florida Ave. was forced to temporarily shut its doors following a bad inspection report filed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. An inspector visited Bo’s Ice Cream Monday and found eight high priority violations, nine intermediate violations and 15 basic violations, according to an inspection report.

Inspectors found evidence of roach and rodent activity and also noticed an employee touching ready-to-eat food with bare hands, among other violation notes.

“Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent dropping reports,” the reported noted. A total of 25 “fresh droppings under dry storage shelves” were found.

While Monday’s inspection resulted in an emergency closure, a repeat inspection on Tuesday met standards, the state reported.

Bo’s owner Kenneth Bosanko acknowledged the eatery had been experiencing problems with pests, but told the Tampa Bay Times he and staff were on top of it.

It seems that was the case.

Only minor issues were noted on Tuesday’s follow-up visit, such as a bathroom door that didn’t self-close and leaking water pipes. The ice cream parlor was allowed to reopen following that visit.
