Harvest Hope Park Now Open In University Area
University area residents now have a place to fish, grow vegetables, learn to prepare healthy meals and get fit.
TAMPA, FL — University area residents now have a place to fish, grow vegetables, learn to prepare healthy meals and get fit.
After five years in the making, the University Area Community Development Corp. officially opened the renovated Harvest Hope Park at 13704 N. 20th St., Nov. 21.
Harvest Hope Park sits on seven acres of land in the heart of the University Area community. The CDC wanted to create a resident-friendly space that encouraged family play, healthy eating, environmental sustainability, education and community interaction.

The newly renovated park includes:
- A 33-bed organic community garden with free produce for residents
- A teaching kitchen where residents learn new methods of cooking healthy foods
- A multi-purpose sports field
- Walking trails
- A 1-acre pond with a dock that is home to bass, turtles, ducks and other wildlife
- A playground
- Sports equipment for adults.
