Investigation Into Deputy-Involved Shooting Underway
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old by a deputy.

TAMPA, FL -- A 17-year-old is still listed in critical condition on Wednesday after being shot by a Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy.
Around 7:42 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, deputies were dispatched for two domestic violence 911 calls in the 1200 block of Skipper Road.
According to the sheriff's office, a family dispute began for unknown reasons while the family was in a parking lot. During the argument, a 17-year-old boy reportedly struck his sister. A short time later, the 17-year-old threw his mother to the ground, resulting in a minor head injury, the sheriff's office said.

The caller said his grandson fled on foot and described him as a black male with black hair wearing an all-red jumpsuit.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Estanislau located the teen just west of the scene. At the time, the sheriff's office said Estanislau feared for his safety because he thought the teen had a weapon. He ordered the teen to "Drop the gun, drop the gun."
Estanislau then fired two rounds from his service weapon, striking the teen once in the upper body. No weapon was found at the scene.
Deputies provided immediate emergency medical treatment to the teen until Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived and took over. The teen was transported to Tampa General Hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
A formal interview with Estanislau is pending.
The teen's family is at the hospital with him and is being updated by the sheriff's office as information becomes available, said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
Chronister said he attempted to call the victim's mother Wednesday morning to update her personally, but she could not be reached.
State Attorney Andrew Warren was on the scene Tuesday night and his office is involved in the investigation.
Estanislau has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with sheriff's office policy, pending a complete investigation and review by the sheriff's office and the State Attorney's Office.
Due to age of the teen, his name is not being released. He has had prior arrests and the sheriff's office has received other calls from the location of the domestic violence disturbance.
Estanislau 26, was hired by the sheriff's office in October 2015. His professional standards record shows only a "Letter of Counseling" in April 2017 for an at-fault traffic crash. This is his first deputy-involved shooting.
Chronister said more information will be released once it's available.
"It is our continued commitment to release information as soon as possible but we must ensure the information is accurate and properly vetted as this is an active investigation," he said. "I am committed to being transparent in getting accurate information to the public in a timely fashion."
