Jesuit High School Welcomes New Principal

TAMPA, FL — Jesuit High School President Richard C. Hermes announced that Mike Scicchitano has accepted the position of principal.

Scicchitano, who will begin his duties this summer, is succeeding Barry Neuburger, who has provided steady leadership for the school as principal during a period of tremendous growth and development the past 10 years.

Scicchitano, who is the school’s assistant principal for discipline, becomes the 30th principal in the Jesuit’s 122-year history since its founding in downtown Tampa in 1899.

“Mike’s deep understanding of the culture and mission of Jesuit High School and Jesuit education, and his many years of school leadership, have prepared him well to keep the school faithful to our mission and ready to face new educational challenges in the years ahead,” Hermes said. “Along with his extensive experience in many aspects of the school, Mike brings a deep conviction about the important role Jesuit plays in the transformation of boys into young men of faith who are engaged as responsible leaders in the world around them.”

After graduating from Jesuit in 2001, Scicchitano earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of Florida, with a minor in classics, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Saint Leo University.

Scicchitano was hired at Jesuit in 2005 as a history teacher and head coach of junior varsity wrestling.

Before moving to the discipline office in 2019, Scicchitano served as director of student activities from 2012-19. He was department chair of social studies from 2013-17, during which time he served as coordinator of Jesuit’s Province Sponsorship Review and served on the Sponsorship Review team for Cristo Rey Jesuit in Houston.

Scicchitano served as head coach of varsity wrestling for nine years, and has also been involved in the religious formation of Jesuit’s students through his leadership on several student pilgrimages, including as the coordinator and leader for the 2019 Magis Pilgrimage in Europe.

Jesuit High School is a private, all-male Catholic high school for grades nine through 12.
