TAMPA, FL -- A Middleton High School teen died Tuesday after collapsing during football drills. Hezekiah B. Walters, 14, collapsed on the football field at the school at 4801 N. 22nd St., at about 4 p.m. Tampa Fire Rescue transported the teen to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Walters was a 14-year-old incoming freshman.A Tampa Police investigation determined that the team was approximately 30 to 40 minutes into the conditioning drills - which included weightlifting, wind sprints, and water breaks - when the teen collapsed.The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
