Live Music, Food Trucks at Southern Brewing & Winemaking Anniversary

Beers will be $5 during the anniversary celebration from Oct. 26-27.

What happens when you combine food trucks, live music and home brewing demonstrations?

If you're a patron of Southern Brewing & Winemaking, you get a day to help the Seminole Heights business celebrate its five-year anniversary. Beer lovers in central Tampa and beyond are invited to the anniversary celebration at 4500 N. Nebraska Avenue, which will be held from 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

During the event, there will be giveaways and raffles, and all beers will be $5. (Sodas will be on tap as well, so you can bring the kids, too.)

We recently talked to Owner Kelly Fenstermacher about the history of the business and what patrons can expect next month.

On how she chose Seminole Heights as a location:  "My husband and I live not too far from here. We drove up and down Florida and Nebraska trying to find a place. A lot of our customers live here. It’s kind of a niche kind of neighborhood. Seemed like the perfect place for a home brew shop."

On what Southern Brewing & Winemaking offers that other businesses don't:  "We are the only home brew shop in this area. You'd have to travel out of Tampa to visit another home brew shop. What sets us apart is, we actually brew beer we sell here on a large scale home brew system. So there's synergy between us brewing on home brew system, and we teach and sell stuff to make beer at home."

Response from the local community: "Overall, very, very positive. We even have gotten a lot of support ... Customers like that they can have a beer while they shop. We have also done a fair number of fundraisers. We have the beer garden in the back. We’re dog-friendly. The neighborhood has been very supportive."
