Springhill Park Community Center Now Officially Open
Mayor Buckhorn cut the ribbon and officially opened the new Springhill Park Community Center in Sulphur Springs.

Mayor Buckhorn and members of the community cut the ribbon and officially opened the new on Tuesday, May 22. The community center is located at 1000 E. Eskimo Ave. in Sulphur Springs.
The design includes a gymnasium, warming kitchen, computer classroom, multi-purpose room, splash pad, playground, and a new sports field. It is also home to the , which has three classrooms and a high-tech performance workshop dedicated to theater and performing arts programs. The studio was named in honor of Virginia Rivers, who was the founder and creative director of the City's award-winning Creative Arts Theater, a professional children’s theater troupe whose mission is to bring the performing arts to our economically challenged neighborhoods.

The community center will serve both youth and adults' social, recreational, health, and educational needs through a variety of programs and classes including an after-school program in partnership with the .
Tampa artist Susan Gott worked with children living in the surrounding neighborhoods to create a blue and white glass mobile, the piece of public art which graces the atrium. The glass sculpture was named "Spring Rain" by the children.

Construction on the $2.5 million Springhill Park Community Center began in June 2010. The project was funded through Community Investment Tax funds.
