TAMPA, FL -- Tips from the public have led to the arrest of a man accused of shooting a Good Samaritan in a parking lot last week.
After the Tampa Police posted a surveillance video of the shooting on social media sites, police received tips that the accused shooter, Edward Nieves, 43, had flown to Puerto Rico. On Monday night, Feb. 11, Orange County authorities arrested Nieves at Orlando International Airport after he returned from Puerto Rico.
According to Tampa Police, at 2:03 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, Nieves assaulted a woman in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at 1930 N. Dale Mabry Highway. When a witness tried to help her, police say Nieves went to his red Ford pickup truck, retrieved a gun and shot the witness in the left shoulder before fleeing the scene (see related story).
