ZooTampa Stork Parents Deliver...Well, A Baby Stork

ZooTampa's resident marabou storks, Will and Kate, had no need of any help when it came to delivering their baby over Mother's Day weekend.

SEMINOLE HEIGHTS, FL -- If the stork delivers human babies, who delivers stork babies?

Regardless of the answer, ZooTampa's resident marabou storks, Will and Kate, had no need of any help when it came to delivering their new baby over Mother's Day weekend.

In keeping with the parents' royal names, the chick has been dubbed Markle.

The marabou stork hails from Africa south of the Sahara. It is nicknamed the "undertaker bird" due to its shape from behind: cloak-like wings and back, skinny white legs, and sometimes a large white mass of "hair" on top of its head.

While baby Markle won't be winning any beauty pageants, the zoo is excited to welcome a new member of this threatened species.
