100 Best Places To Live In Florida; Harbour Island Ranks No. 1

Harbour Island is one of the best places to live in America, according to a new set of 2018 rankings released by Niche. The Tampa neighborhood came in at No. 14 in the rankings nationwide and No. 1 in Florida. It also ranked No. 1 in the Tampa area for three categories: Best Places to Live; Best Places to Raise a Family; and Best Neighborhoods To Live.

For cities, Gainesville received the top rating in the Best Places to Live category statewide and ranked No. 42 nationwide. Tampa was second for Florida cities with a ranking of No. 51 nationwide. Tampa received an A grade on Niche's rankings of Best Places to Live and got a grade of B for public schools.

St. Petersburg ranked 5th in Florida (No. 70 nationwide) and Clearwater ranked 6th in the state (No. 91 nationwide). Lakeland ranked 9th in Florida (No. 124 nationwide).

The rankings of best places to live awarded grades from A+ to D- to neighborhoods across the nation.

The top 100 neighborhoods in Florida received grades of between A+ and A, with 69 neighborhoods getting an A+ grade, 31 neighborhoods receiving an A grade.

To calculate the rankings and assign grades to communities, Niche looks at factors like the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics and access to amenities. Niche gets its data from government sources like the Department of Education, the FBI and the U.S. Census. You can read more about Niche’s methodology and data sources.
