6-Year-Old Grazed By Bullet From Gun Fired By 4-Year-Old In Tampa

A 6-year-old child is recuperating after he was grazed by a bullet fired by a 4-year-old at a house on East Frierson Avenue Tuesday.

TAMPA, FL — A 6-year-old child is recuperating after he was grazed by a bullet fired by a 4-year-old at a house on East Frierson Avenue Tuesday.

According to Tampa police, the gun apparently belonged to a 15-year-old friend of the children's family. It was hidden under a sofa at the home when the 4-year-old discovered it around 10 a.m. and fired it.

A bullet grazed the 6-year-old's leg.

The 15-year-old has been charged with two felony counts of culpable negligence and a misdemeanor charge of minor in possession of a firearm.

While the injury was not serious, Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren said the incidents of guns ending up in the hands of children has become a very serious problem in Tampa Bay.

In a tweet, Warren expressed his outrage, saying his “anger-fueled tirade on gun safety and the gun violence epidemic does not lend itself to 280 characters.”
