For the Midtown Tampa opening and as part of its larger mission to Stand for Something Good, Shake Shack donated one dollar for every sandwich ordered on opening day to Feeding Tampa Bay. Part of the national Feeding America network, Feeding Tampa Bay focuses on providing food to more than one million food-insecure families in the 10-county area of West Central Florida.
Shake Shack is a modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100 percent all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and flat-top Vienna beef dogs (no hormones or antibiotics), spun-fresh frozen custard, crinkle-cut fries, craft beer and wine.
Since the original Shack opened in 2004 in New York City's Madison Square Park, the company has expanded to more than 300 locations in 27 states and the District of Columbia, and more than 100 international locations in London, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Dubai, Philippines, Singapore, Mexico, Tokyo and Seoul.
It's the newest addition to the Midtown Tampa mixed-use community connecting the Westshore area to downtown Tampa. Midtown Tampa broke ground two years ago on 23 acres of underused commercial and office space off Dale Mabry Highway and Cypress Street.
When completed this year, the $500 million Midtown Tampa will consist of 11 buildings encompassing 1.8 million square feet of retail, residential, entertainment and hospitality, residential and office space.
