TAMPA, FL ? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and cornerback Carlton Davis have agreed to terms on a new contract, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapaport.

The two sides agreed to a 3-year, $45 million contract with $30 million guaranteed, according to the report. In Davis, the Buccaneers bring back a key piece of their defense. Davis has six interceptions and 48 pass breakups over the last three seasons. He was the 17th-best free agent in this year's pool, according to Pro Football Focus.

Davis can't sign the contract until Wednesday at the start of the NFL's new league year. Monday marked the beginning of the NFL's legal tampering period where prospective free agents can negotiate with other teams.

Davis, 25, will be on his second contract with Tampa Bay, which selected him in the second round out of Auburn in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The signing is the second piece of big news for the Buccaneers in as many days, as quarterback Tom Brady announced Sunday night he wasn't going to retire after all and will return to play for Tampa Bay this season.

The Bucs do have work to do either in free agency or the draft as both of its starting guards from the 2021 team will not return. Left guard Ali Marpet announced his retirement last month, and right guard Alex Cappa agreed to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals on a four-year contract Monday.
