Bucs Select Defensive Tackle Vita Vea In NFL Draft

TAMPA, FL - The Buccaneers selected defensive tackle Vita Vea from the University of Washington with the 12th pick in the NFL Draft.

The Bucs moved down from the seventh pick in the draft after making a trade with the Buffalo Bills. Tampa Bay received the Bills 12th pick and two second round 2018 draft picks (53 and 56 overall). The Bills selected Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen with the seventh pick.

Speculation on the Bucs pick at No. 7 had centered on two defensive backs - Minkah Fitzpatrick from Alabama and Derwin James of Florida State. Miami selected Fitzpatrick with the 11th pick.

The draft opened with one of the deepest quarterback classes in years, which was good news for the Cleveland Browns, who picked No. 1 overall. The Browns selected Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Giants followed with the second pick, drafting Penn State running back Saquon Barkley. With the third pick, the Jets selected USC quarterback Sam Darnold.

After Thursday’s first round, the draft resumes Friday for rounds 2-3, and then again at noon on Saturday.
