Charges Upgraded For Driver After Hit-And-Run Victim Dies: HCSO
The Sheriff's Office says the victim sustained severe head trauma in a Jan. 30 hit-and-run on 15th Street in Tampa.
TAMPA, FL — The victim of a Jan. 30 hit-and-run crash has died from their injuries, according to a release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The 14-year-old victim was crossing the street and was hit by a 24-year-old woman driving an SUV.
The sheriff's office said in a release that around 7 p.m. on Jan. 30, the victim was crossing 15th Street N., just south of 122nd Avenue E., when the driver, Nakeeba Ryan, hit the victim.
Ryan stopped, got out of the Chevy Equinox, walked towards the victim, then got back in her car and drove off, the sheriff's office said in the release.

Ryan was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
The victim sustained severe head trauma and died on Feb. 4. Subsequently, Ryan's charge was upgraded to leaving the scene of a crash with death.

No further information about the victim has been released.
Ryan is an employee of the Department of Children and Family Services, the release says.
"We will never know if this young life could have been saved had Nakeeba Ryan remained at the scene and called for help immediately instead of driving away," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in the release.
