City of Tampa Urges Residents: Know Your Zone

Tampa recommends that its residents check the evacuation zone maps, which were updated in 2017.

TAMPA, FL – With Tropical Storm Cindy passing by the Gulf Coast earlier this week, the City of Tampa took the opportunity this week to remind residents to “know your zone.”

The official evacuation zone maps were updated for 2017, and some of the zones have changed, according to the City of Tampa.

The City of Tampa Office of Emergency Management encouraged residents to look at the map for all of Hillsborough County, located at www.tampagov.net/AlertTampa under the “Find your evacuation zone” tab.

The map shows the updated evacuation zones with emergency contact information, available in both English and Spanish. The map shows the five color-coded evacuation levels, evacuation routes as well as the nearest public shelters.

During a state of emergency, City of Tampa officials will use zones to direct residents to the closest quick and safe evacuation zone. Resident should know their zone before an emergency and be familiar with evacuation routes to enable a quicker exit in the event of an evacuation order, city officials said in a press release.

City officials also said depending on the proximity to the waterfront, some residents that are not in a designated evacuation zone should not leave their location to prevent crowding evacuation routes.
