The Davis Islands boat ramp and dog beach are about to get upgraded.
Work on the $273,082 project begins on June 10 by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, according to a news release from city officials. An off-shore breakwater, artificial reef modules and new sand to prevent further erosion are key components of the project.
Beach erosion occurred after waves from passing ships exposed rubble and made it unsafe for dogs and their owners, the release said.

The city also plans to repair and repave the boat ramp and add landscaping to the shoreline.
The boat ramp and dog beach area will close temporarily for construction, but the dog park will remain open, the release said.
