TAMPA, FL — A couple is preparing to open the Tampa's first Hounds Town USA franchise early next year.

The New York-based doggie daycare, pet boarding, dog grooming, pet taxi and retail service will arrive in the first quarter of 2021 under the ownership of franchisees and former Chicago residents Jason and Debbie Barrett.

The Barretts are leaving the cold Midwest behind for the Sunshine State to live their dream of owning their own business in an industry they love.

Jason, a cybersecurity professional with experience in real estate, and Debbie, a seasoned teacher, are eager to introduce Hounds Town USA to the residents of Tampa and their furry friends.

Debbie worked in a pet store during her college years, fueling her love for animals. The couple have their own menagerie consisting of two dogs, a hamster and four fish.

“We’ve always had a desire to help dogs and animals in need. Hounds Town USA is the
perfect opportunity to combine our passion for animals with our professional experience as entrepreneurs.” said Jason. “The people of Florida, and Tampa specifically, are very health-conscious, and these values extend to their pets, too. We strongly believe there is an unmet need for a safe environment in which dogs can socialize, exercise and just be dogs.”

“When deciding on Hounds Town USA, I asked myself if I would feel comfortable entrusting Hounds Town USA with the care of my own pets,” said Debbie. “The team has passed with flying colors.”

New York Police Department and Nassau County Police canine handler Mike Gould founded Hounds Town USA in 2000 after identifying the need for an affordable and straightforward approach to pet care. Hounds Town locations offer overnight boarding, grooming services, pet taxi, retail and cat care.

Additionally, Hounds Town franchises open their doors to disabled dogs and “bully breeds,” all thanks to a temperament-grouping system that provides a canine-friendly structure.

“Since COVID-19 became widespread in the United States, there has been a tremendous increase in adoption rates across the country. Some shelters have even completely run out of pets to adopt,” said Jackie Bondanza, president of Hounds Town USA. “Due to this increase in demand for pets in peoples’ homes, pet services such as those Hounds Town USA have to offer are needed more now than ever before.”

This is the third signing for the brand in Florida with room for up to four more locations in the Tampa market. Once their first location is up and running, the Barretts hope to open more franchises.
