First Day of Lobster Season Claims a Life

A man dies near Pompano Beach on the first day of sport lobster season.

A diver in Pompano Beach died Wednesday while fishing for lobster.

The 22-year-old man was pulled up from the waters near Hillsboro Inlet in Broward County around 8:30 a.m., Pompano Beach Fire Rescue told NBC 6 South Florida.

CPR was performed on him before he was transported to Broward Health North, where he died.

Wednesday is the start of lobster harvest season in Florida.

Spiny Lobsters can be fished for sport off of Florida’s shore with a temporary license through Thursday.

Commercial and licensed lobster harvest season last from August 6 through March 31.
