Hot Days, Stormy Afternoons Ahead For Tampa Bay

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area as the short workweek continues.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents are in store for a steamy and potentially stormy shortened workweek ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, folks can expect daytime highs in the 90s throughout much of the week and chances for thunderstorms each afternoon. Storms that develop, forecasters warn, may be capable of producing strong winds, heavy rain, small hail and frequent lightning strikes.

While forecasters aren’t specifically calling for severe weather in the workweek’s forecast, they are urging people to keep a watchful eye on the sky. “If threatening weather approaches your location, move indoors immediately,” the agency warned in its Hazardous Weather Outlook report Tuesday morning.

Foresters expect sunshine in much of the Tampa Bay area in the morning and early afternoon hours Tuesday. The day’s high should reach the upper 80s to low 90s in much of the region. A 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms is expected to roll in between 2 and 5 p.m. Overnight, a 10 percent chance of storms persists with a low around 74 anticipated.

Wednesday is expected to start off with sunny conditions and a high around 90 degrees in much of the region. As the day continues, however, a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms is anticipated. That chance sticks around into the evening hours when the low is expected to drop into the mid-70s.

Thursday is anticipated to shape up much the same as Wednesday, but outside conditions might be a little warmer. The forecast calls for a high around 92 in parts of the Tampa Bay area with a low around 76 degrees in the overnight hours.

Friday is expected to bring a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day with a high around 91 degrees expected. Those storm chances persist at 20 percent heading into the nighttime hours when the low should drop into the mid-70s.

More storms are in the cards throughout the weekend. Forecasters anticipate a 40 percent chance on Saturday and a 50 percent chance for storms on Sunday.
