Iguana Knocks out Power in Florida

11,000 homes and businesses lost power in the Florida Keys Sunday.

A lizard knocked out power for thousands in the Florida Keys during the weekend.

An iguana caused a power outage that affected 11,000 energy customers in the Lower Keys around 4 p.m. Sunday, Keys Info Net reports.

Keys Energy Services says the outage was triggered when the lizard climbed atop a power generator at a substation on Marathon Key.

“The iguana did not survive,” spokesman Julio Torrado of Keys Energy Services said to the website.

Parts of the Lower Keys were without power for more than 10 minutes before power was restored.
