Jets Pizza, Yoko's Japanese Restaurant Cited By Health Inspectors

Peeling paint, a soiled walk-in cooler and tofu held at unsafe temperatures are some of the violations found in Tampa restaurants.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Peeling paint, a soiled walk-in cooler and tofu held at unsafe warm temperatures are some of the violations that Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found last week in Tampa restaurants.

Yoko's Japanese Restaurant, 3217 S Macdill Ave, Tampa, was cited for 12 violations on March 1, including soft shell crab, shrimp and fish held at unsafe warm temperatures; cutting board has cut marks, no longer cleanable; and raw chicken stored above broccoli on cook's line.

Jets Pizza, 14624 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, was citedc on Feb. 28 for three violations, including soiled reach-in cooler gaskets; and a manager lacking proof of food manager certification.

La Creperia Cafe, 1729 E 7 Ave, Tampa, was cited for 13 violations on Feb. 28, including Cloth used as a food-contact surface; purse found on top of box of cheese in dry storage area; various locations in kitchen and back storage area have visible soil/staining; and paint chipping/peeling off the wall in various locations.

Tampa Buffet, 3904 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, was cited for 11 violations on Feb. 27, including plastic jug cut in half and reused as scoop (owner threw away); interior of reach-in cooler soiled with food residue; and tofu, crawfish, chicken and shrimp held at unsafe warm temperatures.

In the last 30 days, 122 Hillsborough County restaurants did not pass the first inspection while 328 restaurants aced the first visit. For more details on Hillsborough County restaurant inspections, click here.

Inspectors made note of five restaurants that recently passed inspections without any violations: Mr. Weirdo's American Food 2, 5911 E Dr M.L.K. Blvd, Tampa; Moe's Southwest Grill, 13012 S US Hwy 301, Riverview; The Dawg Wagon, 3224 W Tampa Bay Blvd, Tampa; Wicked Wiches, 509 N Franklin St, Tampa; Tropical Smoothie Cafe, 6708 Memorial Hwy, Tampa.

Note: Most of the restaurants with violations have corrected those violations and passed subsequent inspections.
