Parkland School Shooting Survivors To Speak At Tampa Event

TAMPA, FL - Activists David Hogg and Emma Gonzalez, survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in February, are scheduled to speak at the Bands and Ballots event on Saturday at Curtis Hixon Park. The event is being organized by March for Our Lives Tampa and will feature a night of performances by local bands and speeches on gun violence.

Organizers say they also hope to register voters at the event that will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will "reflect on gun violence, not as a partisan issue, but as an American issue affecting children and people everywhere every day," according to the organizers.

Other speakers at the event include: Brendan Duff, communications strategist and co-founder of March for Our Lives and Sofie Whitney, another survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

Organizers have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for event expenses. Moms Demand Action Tampa and Everytown for Gun Safety are overseeing the event, according to the group's GoFundMe page.
