St. John’s Grabs Top-Five Finishes At FJCL Fall Latin Forum

Students competed in classically-inspired academic and artistic competitions and participated in their choices of Latin-themed webinars.

On Saturday, November 21, teams from across the Tampa Bay area competed virtually in the 2020 Fall Latin Forum, sponsored by The Florida Junior Classical League (FJCL). Among the 200 competitors, St. John’s entered an impressive 23 students from sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, who competed in classically-inspired academic and artistic competitions and participated in their choices of Latin-themed webinars and activities.

Once again, St. John’s students finished the day in top fashion, with sixth- and seventh-graders sweeping the top five in Latin Language and Myth tests, while the eighth-graders took top places in Latin Language and Roman Culture. For Certamen, the eighth-grade team earned 175 points and took 4th place.

At St. John’s, students begin the study of Latin in fifth grade, cultivating a love of language and building strong linguistic skills, which serve them well through high school, college, and beyond. The FJCL Latin forum provides St. John’s students with an opportunity to test their knowledge in a fun and collegial environment.

The Florida Junior Classical League is committed to the preservation and promotion of the study of Latin, Greek, and classical civilization. Its parent organization, The National Junior Classical League, is the largest academic organization in the United States for middle and high school students.
