Ferrari Stolen From Sarasota Recovered; Tampa Man Arrested

TAMPA, FL — A 22-year-old man has been arrested after Tampa police said they spotted him driving a stolen Ferrari.

On Thursday at 2:39 p.m., officers spotted a 2018 Ferrari 4888 Spider, listed as stolen out of Sarasota, heading north on Diana Street.

Officers followed the Ferrari to the Riverside Palms Apartments, 5007 Castille Place, where the driver parked. Patrol units surrounded the stolen car and took the driver, Jajuan Aldai Smith of 6404 44th St. N., Tampa, into custody. A passenger was questioned and released.

During a search of the car, police found a loaded Glock 9 mm gun on the driver's side floorboard.

Tampa police charged Smith with grand theft auto and felon in possession of a firearm. These charges were added to previous charges Smith faces after being accused of eluding law enforcement earlier in the day. They include burglary of an unoccupied vehicle, aggravated fleeing to elude and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon.

He remains in jail with no bail.
