Tampa Man Dies in Boating Accident Near Davis Islands

Dispatchers received a call about a capsized boat on Hillsborough Bay with six people on board

TAMPA, FL - Authorities are investigating a boating accident near Davis Islands on Saturday afternoon in which one man died. Dispatchers received a call about a capsized boat on Hillsborough Bay with six people on board at the time of the accident, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Several agencies responded to the accident after some of the victims were spotted hanging off buoys.

The man was identified as Alberto Marrero-Tamayo, 57, of Tampa. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit recovered five people at the scene. One of the victims swam to shore and was rescued by the MacDill Air Force Base Marine Patrol. Another person was taken to a local hospital.
