Mother, Baby Killed On Bayshore Leads To 24-Yr Prison Sentence

TAMPA, FL — He'd just graduated two days prior from Tampa Catholic School and was driving the graduation gift from his parents, a shiny black 2018 eight-cylinder Mustang GT, on May 23, 2018, when Cameron Herrin's life changed forever.

In one heartbreaking moment Tampa residents will never forget, Herrin sped down Bayshore Boulevard at an estimated 102 mph and slammed into a young mother pushing a stroller carrying her 1-year-old daughter.

On Thursday, Herrin stood before the Judge Christopher Nash at the Tampa Courthouse and learned his sentence: 24 years in prison.

Tampa Police said Herrin and fellow Tampa Catholic graduate John Barrineau were street racing down Bayshore Boulevard when Herrin struck Jessica Reisinger-Raubenolt, 24, and her daughter, Lillia. Police said Jessica Raubenolt was thrown at least 40 feet. Lillia and the stroller landed about 70 feet away. Jessica Raubenolt was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived at Tampa General Hospital. Her daughter died a day later.

"This crime took two beautiful lives and left four families broken. No sentence can repair that damage or bring back the lives lost, but we hope this outcome delivers some comfort and closure for Jessica’s and Lillia’s families," State Attorney Andrew Warren after the sentencing.

On hand for the sentencing was Jessica Raubenolt's husband, David, and mother, mother, Pamela Reisinger.

David Reisinger spoke at length about the pain he feels every time he sees his daughters empty crib or sees his nephews playing and imagines what Lillia would be like at age 4.

The family of three from Ohio was visiting Jessica Raubenolt's uncle, John Reisinger, who lives off Bayshore Boulevard when the accident occurred.

John Reisinger said Jessica Raubenolt especially loved walking her young daughter in her stroller down the scenic boulevard overlooking Hillsborough Bay.

Herrin pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and unlawful racing.

His attorney, John Fitzgibbons, released the following statement from Herrin: “I am so sorry for what I did and what I caused.”

Among those speaking on Herrin's behalf was retired Judge Greg Holder, a former neighbor of the Herrins.

“This is a very caring young man who was always respectful to my wife and myself and everyone in the neighborhood,” he said.
