Tampa Police Officer Dies in Scuba Diving 'Incident'

Breaking: Tampa Police say one of their own died during an off-duty scuba diving incident in Nevada.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Master Patrol Officer Fred Arnold III died Saturday in what the agency has described as an off-duty incident.

Tampa Police say Arnold, 48, was scuba diving in Nevada’s Lake Mead when the incident occurred. Arnold was a 27-year veteran of the force.

Details about how Arnold died have not been released.

“We are deeply saddened to share with you that this weekend we lost one of our Tampa Police family members,” the agency wrote on Facebook. Arnold, the agency said, was also a mentor to teens in the city’s Police Explorer program.
