Tampa Woman Killed In Father's Day Shooting, Nine Injured: Police
Rapheal Tyree Thomas, 22, Tampa, has been charged in the shooting that took place in Royal and that sent 10 people to the hospital.

TAMPA, FLA – A 25-year-old Tampa woman was shot and killed, and nine other people were injured in a Father’s Day shooting that took place in Royal and that led to the arrest of a Tampa man on Sunday, Sumter County Sheriff’s officials said.
The shooting took place just before 8 p.m. on Sunday at an unsanctioned Father’s Day event at a park in Wildwood. Rapheal Tyree Thomas, 22, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting and was charged with one count of murder without premeditation, eight counts of aggravated battery and possession of weapon by a convicted felon.
Police identified the victim as Cornecia Smikle, who authorities said died after she was shot in the upper torso. Ten people were taken to local hospitals where one person remains in intensive care following the incident. Other victims were reported to be in stable condition while others were released, according to a statement issued by Sumter County Deputy Sheriff Chris Haworth.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Department released body cam video of the arrest of Thomas. Some language in the video may be offensive to some viewers.
The affidavit said that several of the victims and witnesses are either directly or indirectly related to one another. Haworth said that he could only release limited information as the investigation into the shooting continues on Monday. No sheriff's deputies or children attending the event were injured, Haworth said.

After being located hiding under a parked vehicle, Thomas was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office where he complained of feeling sick. He was taken to a local emergency room and treated and was later medically cleared to be taken back to jail, the affidavit said.
Thomas was previously convicted of a 2017 armed robbery in Hillsborough County.
