Tropical Wave Expected to Grow

A tropical wave developed off the coast of Africa Monday that is expected to intensify by the weekend.

Forecasters are keeping a close eye on a tropical wave that rolled off the African coast during the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the wave is centered at about 11 degrees north and 33 degrees west, just southeast of the Cape Verde Islands as of 2 p.m. Monday.

Meteorologist Richard Pasch of NHC says the tropical disturbance is disorganized, but predicts it will intensify.

The wave is given a 30 percent chance for development over the next 48 hours, a figure bumped up to 70 percent over the next 5 days.
