Westwood Deli, New York New York Pizza Cited By Health Inspectors

Flying insects in kitchen, food stored on floor and equipment in poor repair are a few of the violations found in Tampa-area restaurants.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – Flying insects in kitchen, food stored on floor and equipment in poor repair are some of the violations that Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspectors found recently in Hillsborough County restaurants.

Westwood Deli & Catering, 1408 N Westshore Blvd Ste-112, Tampa, was cited for six violations on May 3, including cooked chicken, vegetables, beef and deli meats held at unsafe temperatures; ready-to-eat food marked with a date that exceeds seven days after opening/preparation; no proof of required state-approved employee training provided for any employees.

Al's Finger Licking Good Bar B Que, 1609 18th St N, Tampa, was cited for 12 violations on May 3, including live, small flying insects in kitchen; equipment in poor repair; and in-use knives stored in cracks between pieces of equipment.

New York New York Pizza Westchase, 11203 Sheldon Road, Tampa, was cited for 10 violations on May 3, including food stored on floor, such as shredded cheese in walk-in cooler — inspector discussed the importance of storing all foods at least 6 inches off the ground (corrective action taken); handwash sink not accessible for employee use due to stainless steel bowl stored in the sink; no paper towels or mechanical hand-drying device provided at handwash sink.

In the last 21 days, 146 Hillsborough County restaurants did not pass the first inspection while 318 restaurants aced the first visit. For more details on Hillsborough County restaurant inspections, click here.

The inspectors made note of seven Tampa restaurants that passed inspections during the past week without any violations: Crystal Bay Enterprises, 800 E Twiggs St; Saucin Wings, 5224 S Dale Mabry Hwy; Grain And Berry, 1155 S Dale Mabry Unit 15; Gasparilla Bar, 4100 George J Bean Pkwy Terminal F; Happymac LLC, 5224 S Dale Mabry Hwy; Sodexo, 401 W Kennedy Blvd.; On The Mark Catering, 401 S 50 St.

Note: Most of the restaurants with violations have corrected those violations and passed subsequent inspections.
