Cyclovia Takes Over 56th Street on Sunday, May 15

One-mile stretch will be off-limits to motorized vehicles during the event.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL – For five hours, the heart of 56th Street in Temple Terrace will become a giant block party. The only uninvited guest will be motorized vehicles.

Temple Terrace will host its second Cyclovia on Sunday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along 56th Steet between Whiteway Drive and Bullard Parkway. The City of Temple Terrace is inviting its residents to “take back the street” with their bicycles, skateboards, jump ropes, walking shoes, or anything non-motorized while this main thoroughfare is closed to motorized vehicles.

Cyclovia, based on the Spanish term for “cycle path,” is a celebration of healthy activity and non-motorized transportation. Cyclovia events have been gaining popularity around the world, allowing residents to enjoy a safe, vehicle-free environment for fun and exercise.

Other opportunities scheduled during Cyclovia include yoga classes, chalk art, children’s crafts and line dancing. Food trucks will be on hand to provide refreshments.

While the event is in progress, motorized traffic will be re-routed to 40th Street in Tampa. Residents of Temple Terrace will still be able to access their neighborhoods via side streets.
