Drive Slowwwwly As School Kicks Off In Temple Terrace
High-visibility law enforcement and responder crews will be in place around town in case you forget.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL – PHOTO: The Temple Terrace Fire Department once again will position ladder trucks at intersections near elementary schools on the first day of school to remind motorists to use extra caution when students are commuting to and from class.

School starts Aug. 10 in Hillsborough County, which means more vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Temple Terrace streets, and city officials remind all "to be hyper-vigilant" when driving or walking near the city's schools.

The Temple Terrace Fire Department will station ladder trucks and personnel at intersections near Harris, Temple Terrace and Riverhills elementary schools on the first day of school.
"We hope that having our trucks and crew positioned at high visibility areas around local elementary schools will remind drivers to slow down and adhere to other rules of the road including buckling up and putting down their cellphones," said Temple Terrace Fire Chief Ian Kemp.

"Children will be crowding sidewalks and crossing many streets on their commute to and from school," he added, noting that, in their excitement, youngsters may forget to follow safety rules. "So we are urging motorists to be extra cautious during the first few weeks of the school year."
The Fire Department's goal is to prevent any traffic-related injuries to children during the school year.
