Felicitous’ ‘Spring Swap’ Turns Trash to Treasure

You can swap belongings you no longer use for new-to-you items.

Doing some spring cleaning but don’t have the heart to throw away that T-shirt you’ve had since your freshman year of college?

Take it to Felicitous Independent Coffee House where you can trade it for an item that you’ll actually use.

Felicitous is in the middle of its Spring Swap, a spring cleaning interactive art show that serves as a way for Temple Terrace residents and University of South Florida students to turn their trash into someone else’s treasure.

Here’s what coffee shop owner Rani Chehal had to say about the green event:

This is the first time we’ve down this show. Emily (one of the baristas here at Felicitous came up with it). It’s sort of a Spring Cleaning Interactive Art Show that is also purposeful.

The Swap started April 1 and will run until the end of May. Students, residents, customers are encouraged to bring things such as hats, jewelry, earrings, belts, art, purses or anything else that can be hanged from the displays. Things such as dishes and such are not what we are looking for—they must be easily accessible/displayed and items that people think someone else might be able to find useful!

We also highly encourage everyone to bring something to swap before taking an item so that we have an ongoing display—a little bit easier said than done, as most people have taken most items without exchanging something in return.

Either way, it’s an opportunity to for the community to clean their closets and be able to share once loved belongings that can be continued to be treasured by another human being!
