Florida Legislature Convenes For Special Session

Members of the Florida House and Senate begin a week-long session Thursday to redraw congressional boundaries ruled illegal.

Both chambers of Florida’s legislature begin work Thursday to redraw the 2012 congressional map ruled illegal in a court judgment.

The special summer session of Florida lawmakers was ordered by Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford last week after Circuit Court Judge Terry Lewis said Aug. 1 that the gerrymandered districts of Reps. Corrine Brown (D-Jacksonville) and Daniel Webster (R-Greater Orlando) had to be redrawn by Aug. 15.

The Florida House Redistricting Committee is headed by State Rep. Richard Corcoran (R) of Land O’ Lakes, and Senate Reapportionment Committee by State Sen. Bill Galvano (R) of Bradenton.
