Hurricane Dorian: Temple Terrace Declares State Of Emergency

The Temple Terrace Mayor and City Council declared a State of Local Emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL —During an Aug. 30 emergency meeting of the Temple Terrace Mayor and City Council, acting as the Executive Policy Council for the City’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, declared a State of Local Emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian.

The declaration allows the city government to waive everyday procedures and do what officials feel is necessary to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community. This includes: ordering evacuations, performing public work, making emergency purchases, renting equipment, hiring workers, using volunteers, etc.

Additionally, the city is rescheduling the City Council meeting and first public reading and hearing on the fiscal year 2019-20 tax levy and budget from Tuesday, Sept. 3 to Friday, Sept. 6 at 6p.m.

The city is making sandbags available to residents at the Sports Complex at 10369 U.S. 301. The station will be open until 7 p.m. and distribution will resume on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sandbags are reserved for residents of Temple Terrace who must show a valid ID or recent utility bill that includes a Temple Terrace address. The station will be self-service with bags, shovels and sand provided. Assistance is available for the elderly or persons with disabilities. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.
