"Our Nation had over 258 Medal of Honor awarded during this war, the average age of soldiers was only 19, and we lost over 58,000 fighting for freedom with an estimated 300,000 wounded, and over 2600 POWs," Mortenson said.
"Today, it is not only about those that served in uniform; it is an opportunity to unite as Americans and thank and honor Vietnam Veterans and their families. The day is of historical importance since it represents the day the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam," Mortenson added.
