Remember: Stop For School Buses
Florida law requires drivers to stop when school bus alerts are on.

As Florida students return to school this month, Florida’s DMV reminds drivers to remain vigilant on the road.
Florida’s School Bus Stop Law requires all drivers to come to a complete stop when nearing school buses with flashing red lights and extended stop signs.
The only exception to the law is when the driver is separated by a median of at least 5 feet wide on the opposite side of traffic (see top-right diagram).

In 2012, more than 21,000 drivers illegally passed school buses per day, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Violators can face fines of up to $265 and have their licenses suspended for up to a year.
