Temple Terrace Course on State's Historic Golf Trail

The trail is meant to recognize the state's early golf heritage.

Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club has a new accolade to add to its growing list. The property has been chosen by the state for inclusion in the new Florida Historic Golf Trail.

The trail is meant to celebrate the state’s early golf heritage from about the 1890s through World War II, according to a city media release. Included courses must be historic, publically accessible and available for play.

“We are proud to showcase Florida’s rich golfing traditions,” Ken Detzner, Florida’s Secretary of State, was quoted in the release as saying.

The Temple Terrace course opened for play back in 1922. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. That honor made it the first 18-hole golf course in the entire state to be named to the register. The course is also home to the U.S. Professional Hickory Golf Championship, which is held yearly.
