Temple Terrace Offers Lifeguard Training Course

Limited enrollment available for sessions beginning April 23.

TEMPLE TERRACE, FL – During the summer months, pools around the Tampa Bay area look to fill seasonal positions for life guards.

The City of Temple Terrace wants to give candidates a leg up by hosting a four-session Lifeguard Training Course starting Saturday, April 23 at the Family Recreation Complex, 6610 Whiteway Drive. The city is currently registering candidates and enrollment is limited.

The requirements for participation are:

  • Must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the class
  • Must be able to complete the following to take the course: Retrieve a 10-pound brick from 12 feet of water, swim 300 yards without stopping, and tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Must pass the skills and written tests for CPR and rescue, with two chances to pass with 80 percent or higher
  • Must attend all four sessions (April 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 30 from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

The course costs $180 per participant and includes a training manual. After successful completion, participants will receive certification for Lifeguarding, Standard First Aid, and CPRE/AED for Lifeguards through the American Red Cross. The certifications do not include waterfront (beach) lifeguarding.
