WEST PALM BEACH, FLA (June 29, 2021) – The City of West Palm Beach, along with the Sickle Cell Foundation of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, Alfonso Hernandez Architect, LLC, and Burke Construction, recently celebrated the groundbreaking for the future community resource center in the city’s Roosevelt Estates neighborhood. The site is projected to reach completion in early 2022.

The new center is to be named in honor of Eva Williams Mack, the first African American female Mayor of West Palm Beach and founder of this chapter of the Sickle Cell Foundation. The federally funded site will be the new home of services traditionally offered through the city’s Vickers House (811 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd.), the Sickle Cell Foundation and other local non-profit organizations. The center will feature two conference rooms, a multi-space room, a computer lab, a co-working space, storage and donation rooms, restrooms equipped with showers and various infrastructure improvements.

In line with Mayor Keith James’ vision of a “community of opportunity for all” – where anyone can accomplish their dreams regardless of income level, race or life circumstances – the center was designed to assure quality of life through the development of housing, social and economic opportunities that will support and empower our lower-income communities.
