City Of West Palm Beach Now Accepting Nominations For Historic Preservation Awards

As part of its celebration of May as National Historic Preservation Month, the City of West Palm Beach is now accepting nominations for its 2021 Historic Preservation Awards. Through its Historic Preservation Division, the city will recognize exceptional preservation efforts throughout its historic neighborhoods.

The awards will be divided into the following categories:

• Rehabilitation – structure displays the proper rehabilitation processes in accordance with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards.
• Infill design – acknowledges the appropriate infill within historic districts that “fills in the gap” of a historic streetscape. Infill should be compatible with massing, size, scale and architectural features of the district.
• Craftsmanship/handyman – recognizes traditional techniques or construction methods that are considered artistic and rare among today’s common trends. This category also pays tribute to the “handyman” who has emphasized the distinguishing features of a structure.
• Service – honors an organization or individual who has significantly impacted the community through advocacy or service in historic preservation.

Eligible properties must be within the boundaries of a designated City of West Palm Beach Historic District or listed on the West Palm Beach Register of Historic Places, and have been completed within the last five years.

Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday, May 12, 2021. The city’s Historic Preservation Board will determine the award recipients based on the quality, significance and uniqueness of the project. The winners will be announced at the Historic Preservation Board meeting on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
