The Month of May is nationally recognized as skin cancer awareness month. In support of this vital public service message, the Richard David Kann (RDK) Melanoma Foundation is donating five sunscreen dispensers around Palm Beach County.

One person dies from melanoma every fifty minutes; with education, melanoma is almost 100% preventable! The Foundation has been working locally and nationally for over 25 years to save lives by changing behaviors through education to increase awareness on sun safety prevention and early detection of melanoma. Their newest initiative involves distributing sunscreen dispensers in parks, beaches, schools, and outdoor areas, where sun exposure is excessive.

The Foundation has been working closely with the city of West Palm Beach to ensure community health and education continues to thrive, and coordinated that the following locations will have a RDK Melanoma Foundation sunscreen dispenser for those visiting to use and be sun safe:

"We strive to make a positive impact on our community, and with the placement of sunscreen dispensers in areas where people gather to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, we hope to inspire people to implement life-long habits for the prevention of skin cancer,” said Jenique Crawley, Director of Operations at Richard David Kann Melanoma Foundation.

RDK Melanoma Foundation will also donate one sunscreen dispenser to Lower Moreland High School SAM’s (Students Against Melanoma) Club in Pennsylvania. Lower Moreland has been leading the way in educating their community about sun safety and awareness with fundraisers, selling creative Melanoma Awareness bracelets, and social media blasts- all in an effort to raise funds, which allows the expansion of SAM clubs throughout high schools and colleges nationally.

Jupiter High School recently collaborated with the Kendra Scott team to host an amazing in-store event at the Gardens Mall to continue to elevate the high school’s SAM club and raise awareness.

Jenique Crawley added “The Foundation truly values the hard work our SAM students put into the clubs and the sheer dedication they show during events and being the smiling sun safe faces of our organization.”
