Serena Williams Fires Back At John McEnroe: Keep Me Out Of Your Statements

Serena Williams, the all-time great tennis player who has 23 Grand Slam singles titles under her belt, fired back at one of tennis' other greats, John McEnroe, for saying Williams is the best female tennis player no doubt but she would be ranked "like 700" on the men's tour.

McEnroe made the comments while speaking to NPR about his memoir "But Seriously."

Williams took to Twitter on Monday, respectfully asking McEnroe to keep her out of his statements.

"Dear John, I adore and respect you but please please keep me out of your statements that are not factually based," Williams wrote.

In a follow-up tweet, Williams wrote, "I've never played anyone ranked "there" nor do I have time. Respect me and my privacy as I'm trying to have a baby. Good day sir."

John McEnroe: Serena Williams Would Be Ranked 'Like 700' On Men's Tour

McEnroe did not apologize for his comments. During an appearance on CBS This Morning, when asked if he would like to apologize, McEnroe simply said no. He later added that he didn't know his comments would create controversy.

Asked by Gayle King where he would rank himself on the tour, McEnroe said that taking into consideration the fact that he was 58 and he would have to win a match by winning the best of five sets, which is the standard on the men's tour, "I would be, currently, about 1,200 in the world."

McEnroe won seven Grand Slam titles during his career while Williams has won 23.

Williams was weeks pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January. After accidentally revealing to the world that she's pregnant, she announced that she would be taking a break from tennis until 2018.
