Venus Williams' Florida Home Burglarized During U.S. Open: Police

About $400,000 worth of items was taken from the tennis great's Florida home in September when she competed in the U.S. Open.

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL — Venus Williams' Palm Beach Gardens home was burglarized in September when the tennis great was in New York competing in the U.S. Open tournament, according to a police report made public this week.

The burglary at Williams' home was reported Sept. 5 and the home was last known to be secure on Sept. 1. A total of $400,000 worth of property was taken from the home though the description of the items taken was redacted in the report.

Williams reached the semi-finals of the U.S. Open this year, where she lost to fellow American Sloane Stephens on Sept. 7. The day the residence was last noted as secure in the police report Williams played Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari in the round of 32.

Williams lives in the Palm Beach Gardens gated community of BallenIsles Country Club, according to The Palm Beach Post.

Over the summer, Williams was involved in a traffic collision that left a 78-year-old man dead. Police ruled that Williams lawfully entered the intersection where her SUV collided with another car on June 9.
