Vegetation Amnesty Days Aim to Ready City for Hurricane Season

Vegetation Amnesty Days will be held May 3 - 14, 2021 in the City of West Palm Beach. Residents are encouraged to participate! During this time, residents may place an unlimited about of vegetative waste curbside for pickup at no additional cost. The City is waiving the normal service charge during this period.

Mortgage Assistance Program Available

Through its Department of Housing and Economic Sustainability, Palm Beach County, a partner of the City of West Palm Beach, recently announced the availability of Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) Mortgage Assistance funds. The program will provide emergency financial assistance to homeowners at or below 80% AMI who were negatively impacted financially as a result of the pandemic and are delinquent in their first mortgage and escrow payments.

The 1st Wednesday Business Networking Mixer for May 2021 brings West Palm Beach City Commissioners to ‘meet and greet’ with the public at an in-person event on May 5, 2021 (5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.) at 600 4th Street. Registration is required. CDC social distancing guidelines will be enforced, and face coverings are required.

Road Closure Update: Brightline to Close 45th St. Rail Crossing for Upgrades

Brightline has informed the City that it will close its 45th St. crossing, between Pinewood Ave. and Greenwood Ave. for rail upgrades Monday, May 10, 2021, 7:00 a.m. – Friday, May 28, 2021, 6:00 p.m.

Update on Mayor's Taskforce on Racial & Ethnic Equality

At the most recent meeting of the Mayor's Task Force on Racial & Ethnic Equality (April 22nd at 6 pm), Task Force members gave feedback on the press conference April 21st. The purpose of the press conference was to inform the public about the Task Force and subcommittee progress and to advertise the upcoming June 12th Action Summit. You can watch it here if you missed it!

Subcommittee members shared updates on the progress of their respective committees as well as steps to prepare for the Action Summit on June 12th (pre-register now -- it's free and on Zoom!). Progress on physical and digital collaterals is being made, and four auxiliary locations have been decided to increase community accessibility and ability to participate in the Summit.

You are welcome to attend the Task Force and subcommittee meetings, which are held online via Zoom (see the Calendar). For more details on the Task Force timeline, please visit the website. On the website, you can also access the agendas and minutes of Task Force and subcommittee meetings, and you can find out other ways to get involved to support the mission of the Task Force.

ICYMI: City to Observe Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May

The City of West Palm Beach will observe Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May. The month celebrates the contributions, sacrifices and accomplishments that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made to our nation. At the May 3, 2021 City Commission meeting, Mayor Keith A. James will issue a special proclamation declaring the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and the City will host a series of events in celebration in May.
