Mandel Public Library Offers Summer at Your City Library June 6 - July 31

After a challenging school year, the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach is ready to help kids catch up with learning and stay engaged and entertained during their shortened summer break with its Summer at Your City Library. The eight-week program takes place June 6 – July 31, 2021 and features an array of free reading, learning, activities, entertainment, and fun for kids and teens.

Summer at Your City Library features:

  • FREE summer reading programs that encourage the entire family to read with gift books and weekly prizes
  • FREE small group tutoring for kids and teens in reading and math with certified teachers
  • FREE unlimited events and activities for all ages (virtual and in-person)
  • FREE nutritious lunches for kids and teens aged 18 and under
  • FREE Grab & Go activity kits for all ages to bring home the fun
  • PLUS patrons can always enjoy FREE ebooks, audiobooks, music, movies and more in the Digital Library

Stay Informed, Stay Safe, Receive Emergency Alerts from the City of West Palm Beach

In the event of an emergency, disaster or hurricane, being informed is key to staying safe.

AlertPBC & PBC DART

The City of West Palm Beach Division of Emergency Management, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Division of Emergency Management, recommends you:

  • Sign up for “AlertPBC,” the Palm Beach County Emergency Notification System, which sends text, email or voice alerts to your phone. Click here to sign up for AlertPBC!
  • Download the Palm Beach County Disaster Awareness and Recovery Tool (PBC DART), which provides residents with information and tools used to prepare for a disaster and with the ability to report damage to their home or business in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Download the PBC DART app today from the App Store or GooglePlay. It’s FREE.

The City will no longer use the CodeRed app to inform residents of emergency alerts.

Policy Actions

Below is a summary of some of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission at a meeting on Monday, May 17, 2021.

  • Approved ratifying the acceptance of a 2021 LEED for Cities and Communities Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Green Building Council, Inc. to provide technical support as the City of West Palm Beach applies for certification with the LEED for Cities and Communities Program. The 2021 LEED for Cities and Communities Grant Program convenes a cohort of U.S. local governments committed to certifying in LEED for Cities and Communities and accelerating progress on climate change, social equity, and resilience. The program will provide valuable tools and networking opportunities for the city as it strives for continuous improvement and best practices in all its operations.
  • Approved accepting and appropriating $5,811 in funds from Prime Time of Palm Beach County funded by the Children Services Council in recognition of the after-school programs at Gaines Park, Howard Park, and South Olive Park achieving outstanding performance. These funds are to be used solely for program enhancements, staff development, and staff recognition. Gaines Park, Howard Park and South Olive Park have been recognized as leaders in Prime Time's Quality Improvement System and were selected to be recipients of the iMotivate incentive award. Gaines Park Community Center was awarded $1,815. Howard Park Community Center was awarded $2,250. South Olive Community Center was awarded $1,746.

45th St. Rail Crossing Closed for Upgrades

Brightline has closed its 45th St. crossing, between Pinewood Ave. and Greenwood Ave. for rail upgrades through Friday, May 28, 2021, 6 p.m.

City Hall and Library to Close in Observance of Memorial Day

West Palm Beach City Hall and the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach will be closed on Monday, May 31, 2021 in observance of Memorial Day. Trash/garbage collection services will be provided on schedule. On Tuesday, May 31, 2021, City Hall will reopen at 8:00 a.m., and the Mandel Public Library will reopen at 9:30 a.m.
