Homesteaders Line Up to Teach

When Forest Hills resident Brittany Hickman opens up her home and gardens to others wanting to learn more about homesteading she won’t be alone in teaching others about the lifestyle.

A number of speakers are planning to come out to the May 5 Cultivate Your Life Homesteading Event, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hickman’s Sunny Spot Gardens, 9509 N. Dartmouth Ave.

Here’s a lineup of speakers:

• Designing a Permaculture Based Chicken Space, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Presented by Kattya Graham.
• Bee Keeping, from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Presented by Becky Wells Weliczko.
• Perennials for your Florida Backyard, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Presented by Caroline Baines.
• Knitting Circle, from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Presented by Tricia Gaitan Medina.
• Potluck Lunch Break, from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by the Three & One Acoustic Band starting at 1 p.m.
• Beginners Guide to Raising Dairy Goats, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Presented by Christine Abbey DeRuyter.
• Self-Sustainability & the Importance of Raising Your Own Food, from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. Presented by Sue McGonegal.
• Making and Using Water Kefir, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Presented by Tricia Gaitan Medina.
• Plant Swap, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.
• Cooking What You Grow, from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. Presented by Susan Huff.
• Tampa Bay Time Banking, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Presented by Karen Lowman.
• Edible Wild Plant Walk, from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. Presented by Andy Firk.

A number of vendors will also be on site.
