HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL -- Hillsborough County will hold a series of public information meetings to engage the community about risk mitigation strategy and the Floodplain Management Plan. The first meeting will take place Tuesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at the Maureen B. Gauzza Library, 11211 Countryway Blvd., Tampa.

The Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) is the all-hazards guide developed to provide the community with information about the risks – such as floods, tornadoes, wildfires, thunderstorms and hurricanes – that residents could possibly face while living in Hillsborough County. It includes mitigation techniques that businesses and residents may implement to help lessen risks.

The open house format meetings with Public Works Hazard Mitigation staff will:

  • Answer questions and receive feedback from residents
  • Provide information about what local governments are doing to mitigate hazards
  • Detail how the LMS is being updated
  • Explain how residents can protect their families, businesses and property.
